Privatization of Holland Casino

Where everyone has been waiting for finally happened: after another year of big losses, the Dutch government decided to sell the 14 state casinos.
Since 1976, the Dutch government has a monopoly on the Dutch casino market.
After many successfull years, declining attendance and the rise of online gambling has pushed the casino into the red.

The government has decided to sell 10 of it's establishments as a group, under the name Holland Casino. The other 4 casino's will be sold separately. Besides that, the casinos will also get a license to offer online gaming.

All in all very good news for the casinos personnel and of course for the Dutch casino visitors as privatization might lead to new opportunities and innovations.

The biggest Jackpot, won on a penny Playboy Canada slot by local visitor Chandra:  $39.788! Chandra had been playing for less than 30 minutes when the video slot revealed the jackpot. She says she'll use some of her winnings to pay student loans and will be back soon to play at Red Hawk.

Next to Chandra’s win, a “Top Dollar II Slot machine revealed a $22.500 jackpot and to complete this extraordinary week, a guest from Roseville California hit a Royal flush of diamonds on a “Super Poker slot”, winning $12.000!!

JACKPOT!!!

Yesterday, the 22nd of March, an anonymous guest of Holland Casino Enschede won the biggest slot jackpot in Dutch history: €2.960.222!

With a spin of €7,50 on one of the Mega Milions Jackpot machines, a connected group of machines which can be played in every establishment of Holland Casino (except for Holland Casino Schiphol Airport) the life of the young player who visited the casino with some friends, has been changed forever.

And if things are not yet good enough: the Jackpot is tax free!! Holland Casino is taking care of the 29% gambling tax.

It was almost a year since the last big payout on the Mega Millions Jackpot (1.8 million on the 1st of April 2013 in Holland Casino Leeuwarden). After yesterdays big win, the Jackpot has been reset to €1.000.000. Of course still an amazing amount to win at a slot machine.

Too drunk to play?

Mark Johnston, a 52-year-old businessman from southern California sues the Downtown Grand casino in Las Vegas after losing $500.000 (€360.000) on the 30th of January in a 17 hour streak. The reason: he claims he was visibly intoxicated while the casino kept on giving him drinks credits.

According to Johnston’s, the casino served hem 20 drinks, while he was already drunk when he arrived. Besides that he claims he was even that drunk that he wasn’t able to even see/read the cards.

The law seems to be on Johnston’s side (if his story is true of course). Nevada’s state law asserts that casinos cannot continue to give money and drinks to patrons who are obviously drunk.

The casino says, however, that Johnston has been avoiding his gambling debts and the casino’s plan is to go after the money Johnston owes them.

Vegas strikes again with The High Roller Wheel

Vegas never sleeps and keeps developing again and again. The newest over the top project: The High Roller Wheel.

With its 550 feet (167m) it’s the tallest observation wheel in the world! To compare, the famous wheel in London is “only” 443 feet (135m). With 28 cabins, big enough for 40 persons each, the High Roller Wheel can host about 2200 guests per hour!

The High Roller, owned by Ceasars Entertainment Corporations is situated parallel of the Las Vegas Strip on the site of the former O’Shea’s Casino and is part of the new entertainment centre THE LINQ. It’s accessible from The LINQ via multiple entrances. The Las Vegas Monorail, meanwhile, cruises right in front of the High Roller with convenient stops at both the Flamingo and The Quad.

A 30 minutes ride will cost you $25. The 360 degree sight cabins will give you an amazing view of Las Vegas and offers 9 flat screen televisions and an Ipad dock to enjoy your own music. You can rent the cabins for a private party and , of course, for a wedding (hey, it's in Vegas).

The costs of the project: 550 Million Dollars.

The High Roller Wheel is scheduled to open in March 2014. Of course we’ll keep you posted.

Jackpot fever in Holland Casino

Since many years, Holland Casino offers the Mega Million Jackpot slot machines. It’s the ultimate opportunity to become a millionaire in one single spin.
Right now, The Mega Millions Jackpot has reached its highest point ever: 2.7 million Euro’s!

The Mega Millions Jackpot slot machines are all connected and can be played in every establishment of Holland Casino (except Holland Casino Schiphol Airport). The minimum bet of the machines is €0,10, but to make a chance of winning the Jackpot you’ll pay €7,50 per spin. Not cheap, but the reward can be life changing!

Over the last years, the Jackpot has hit several times. The biggest payout so far: €2.699.769. Once a player wins the Jackpot, the casinos resets it again to €1.000.000.

An overview of the last five jackpot payouts:

  • 1 April 2013, Holland Casino Leeuwarden: €1.886.591
  • 12 October 2012, Holland Casino Enschede: €1.604.629
  • 9 June 2012, Holland Casino Eindhoven: €2.699.770
  • 7 November 2011, Holland Casino Rotterdam: €1.066.148
  • 25 October 2011, Holland Casino Eindhoven: €2.091.503

Remarkable detail:
The Mega Millions Jackpot (or a payout of at least €100.000) hits 10 times in 2007, 19 times in 2008, 13 times in 2009, 17 times in 2010, 11 times in 2012 and only 2 (!) times in 2013……

Let’s see what 2014 will bring. We’ll keep you posted!

Number of Las Vegas visitors stabilized

After three years of growth, the number of Las Vegas visitors has stabilized in 2013.
Over 39,6 million people visited Sin City last year. This was almost equal to 2012 (39,7 million).

Compared to Macau (+/- 28 million visitor in 2013), Vegas is still nr.1! At least if we look at the number of visitors. When we talk about the revenue per visitor, the story is totally different: Vegas visitors spent on average $164 per visit, Macau visitors a stunning $1600!

For 2014, Las Vegas aims for at least 40 million visitors! They can count on our crew to contribute to this number :-)

Jackpot or JackNot?

Isn’t it every players dream? Hitting the big Jackpot.

Of course it doesn’t happen every day, but the patience of players on one particular machine at the MGM casino in Las Vegas is really put to the test.

The Lion’s Share Progressive Slot machine hasn’t produced a jackpot in almost 20 years!! The current jackpot value: over 2,3 million dollars! The machines is the only survivor of a slew of $1 progressive slot machines (50 in total) from the early 1990’s and as Nevada’s law requires a pay out of at least 75% of the money that’s been put in, the Lion’s Share is not going anywhere until somebody hits the jackpot.

MGM’s Executive Director Justin Andrews told us, the Lion’s share gets played about five times more than any other slot machine in the casino and this already legendary machine has no lack of publicity as it has its own Facebook page, Twitter account and fanclub.

The big question: who will hit the jackpot, and when? Nobody knows… maybe it will take another 20 years.

A nice rumor: the winner of the Jackpot, also wins the machine!

We’ll keep you posted.

Gaming revenues Macau through the roof!

It was already well known that Macau took over the number one position of highest gaming revenues in the World a few years ago (2007) and that records have been broken year after year. Nevertheless the results of 2013 were again beyond everyone's expectations.

The only legal gaming city in China saw its gaming revenues increasing to a stunning 45,2 billion Dollars!! To compare: that's 7(!) time higher than the 6.5 billion dollar revenue of the Las Vegas Strip casino's.

Who thinks the end is in sight seems to be wrong. The expected growth for 2014 is 20%!

Development revenues Las Vegas vs Macau (billions %):

Did you know that:
* 73% of Macau's visitiors are from China
* gambling in Macau has been legal since the 1850's
* there are 36 casino's in Macau
* Macau has about 5700 gaming tables and over 200.000 slotmachines
